The first restaurant was opened in 1993, in Indiana at the Green Tree Mall. The founder’s name was Kent Taylor. He lived and worked in Colorado, but at the same time, he wanted to attend a culinary school. Taylor was his own executive chef until 1990, when he divorced his wife and went to Louisville.

There he started working at Kentucky Fried Chicken till 1991, when he (with the help of his friends) opened his own restaurant – Buckhead Hickory Grill. The second restaurant was opened in Florida and after that Texas Roadhouse would expand in late 1990s. By 1999, there were already 67 restaurants and in 2004 the chain began public offerings.

The restaurant serves only dishes from American Cuisine: ribs, chicken, seafood and steaks along with mushrooms, cheese and barbecue themes. The company has partnership with Tyson and Smithfield Foods, which are their main suppliers. The chain also helps organizing country cooking championships with their ribs and steaks.

Actually, everything in the menu is hand-made except for some items from the children menu: hot dogs and Kraft Mac and Cheese. This also includes dressings, salads, side dishes and sauces from the adult menu.

By the way, stakes in the restaurants are never frozen and are hand-cut inside the restaurant (the only exception is a big T-bone steak, which is packaged “out of the house”).

People that visit the restaurant frequently definitely noticed peculiar features of the restaurant: it’s the restaurant’s free peanuts (as it was mentioned above) and unlimited dinner rolls with cinnamon, honey and butter.

The TR slogan is “Legendary food, Legendary Service” and the company’s mascot is Andy the armadillo.

Many restaurants release their coupons to attract customers and TR is not an exception.
